Missing Information started life in 2023 as an internal tool at Truetax, a Keighley-based accountancy practice. After years of losing entire afternoons to chasing bank statements from clients, we built the system we wished existed. In late 2023, Truetax's senior accountant walked into the partner's office with a notebook. "I've just spent the morning writing six separate emails to clients chasing bank statements. I keep losing track of who's sent what. There must be a better way."
There wasn't. So the partner, a recovering software engineer, sat down with the team and built one over three weekends. A simple PHP app with a MySQL database. Clients, services, periods, items, statuses.
Within a month, every member of staff was using it. Within six months, the firm had dropped its lowest-margin clients and taken on higher-value work — partly because the chasing burden had collapsed. Within a year, on-time filing rates went from 78% to 96%.
